Juan Orrantia
Juan Orrantia is a columbian photographer with a background of visual anthropology, and interests in Johannesburgs representation and history. He lived in Johannesburg, South Africa for more than 10 years, because he was working on conceptual documentary projects around Africa, but then moved to Johannesburgto become closer to his home culture that he had left behind. However before his inpiration that emerged from this area he was experimenting with natural light sources, capturing reflections and shadows on his walls indoors. But after moving to Johannesburg he started to take a closer look into details of his surroundings there and photographing them and also intriguing moments at home with his family.
In this image is quite interesting as he took a simple image using a vegetable, having the sun's support to create shadows onto the wall. It is quite a simple image, however Orrantia uses bright colors that contrast to compliment the image, when editing to make the image more abstract and appealing. In the image there is a blank white wall with an arm coming from the left side of the image, and the hand is dangling what seems like a potato, with a colorful African culture fabric in the corner, which adds come interesting fine details into his image, and touches on culture.
Judging by his images, Juan Orrantia tries to capture the moments in everyday life, in detail, that many people would not notice yet also adapt them for more eye catching affect. His themes for his images are too capture light in abstract ways and also texture as well as color in clear detail. A lot of his images reflect him taking advantage and opening his eyes to the beauty found in simple places such as his home. I can see how in his images he has used the lighting that Is created by the Sun in the evenings/mornings to his advantages to then capture beautiful shadows a shapes.
